J.C. Newman Cigar Company is the oldest family-owned premium cigar maker in America, founded in 1895 when Hungarian immigrant Julius Caeser Newman rolled his first cigars in a Cleveland barn with a $50 loan from his mother. Four generations later, the family still runs the business from "El Reloj" — the clock-tower factory in Tampa's Ybor City that is the last large cigar factory operating in the United States. It's a genuinely singular place: cigars are made both by hand and on hand-operated antique machines from the 1930s, and J.C. Newman was the company that introduced the cellophane tube now standard across the industry.
